THE CONSERVATORY PROGRAM (AGES 7 AND UP)
The Conservatory Program is for those students who have completed Ballet I and are ready to continue their studies in ballet. These students either want to train for a professional career in dance or they want to get the most out of their ballet training and dance en pointe. Students in The Conservatory Program advance based on ability not age. Each level introduces more intricate steps and combinations's and the student's ballet technique must be strong enough for that level. The students in The Conservatory Program are also part of the Galax Youth Ballet.
Beginning Division (Ballet II, IIB, III)
Ballet II
An hour of ballet class that expands the ballet vocabulary starts in Ballet I. Ballet combinations increase in complexity at the barre and in the center. Combinations across the floor are developed at this stage.Students are eligible to participate in the Galax Youth Ballet at this level.
Ballet IIB
This is the pre-pointe year. It is recommended that students at this level take two ballet classes a week to develop the strength necessary to go on pointe. Strength, flexibility, turn out and solid technique are stressed in this hour long class. The director determines if a student has developed the strength necessary to go on pointe.
Ballet III
Students at this level should attend two to three classes a week. Most will start on pointe at this level or add a pre-pointe class. Emphasis is place on technique, strength, and core stability. Students will move at their own pace through levels III and up. Advancement is not age dependent. Not all students will be technically ready for pointe in Ballet III.

OPTIONAL CLASSES
All students may add additional classes such as modern, character dance, and yoga to supplement their ballet training. All serious ballet students need to cross train with other forms of dance and conditioning.
Intermediate Division (Ballet IV,V,VI)
Students in the intermediate division must take at least three technique classes a week along with a pointe class. Each division has a sequence of levels carefully designed to meet the developmental and technical needs of students as they train to be serious ballet dancers.
Students in Ballet VI must take at least four classes a week including repertoire classes. Progression to Level VII, Advanced Level, will require the student to have strong technique, ability to work in turnout consistantly and have excellent placement. Students in Ballet VI and up work at the pre-professional level and are developing their artistry.
All Students Level IV and Up should take a summer intensive. Ballet is a year round sport..
Advanced Division (Ballet VII and VIII)
The advanced division is for the serious ballet student who hopes for a career in ballet. Students should be attending classes 4-5 days week.
Students at this level have classes that are 2 hours in length. Some of the technique classes are all done en pointe as students have developed a high level of technical proficiency
